Ziqiang was born and raised in Shandong Province. When Ziqiang completed his B.S. in 2007 from Linyi University, he went to Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he did his Master studies under the supervision of Professor Shu-Li You. His research focused on asymmetric organic catalysis with the N-heterocyclic Carbene as the chiral catalyst. Then Ziqiang joined Prof. Zhao Yu’s group at National University of Singapore in 2012, he investigated the asymmetric borrowing hydrogenation and medium sized ring construction using transition metal catalysis. Upon completion of his Ph.D. studies in 2016, he worked with Prof. Dong Guangbin at the University of Chicago as a postdoctoral associate in the field of C-C bond activation using transition metal catalysis. In October of 2018, he joined Department of Chemistry at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) as a full professor. His research program at NPU focuses on the development of new efficient catalytic methodology for the medicinal chemistry and material science.
